Central Oregon Coast

We loaded up in Joe's truck early Thursday morning September 22 to cram in as much as we could see on our last day in the Newport area.  Our first stop was at Heceta Head Lighthouse.  We walked the trail up to the lighthouse and could smell the refreshing scent of the woods.  I guess this would be considered the forest meeting the sea as the fog rose up through the cliffs making its way into the woods across Hwy 101.

We stopped in the town of Florence for lunch where I had Mo's World Famous Clam Chowder and it was delicious.  I am very reluctant to ordering clam chowder in restaurants but I had to try this world renowned chowder.   The history of this restaurant and the owner "Mo" is quiet interesting and worth the time to read about it, just click here.  The restaurant sits over the Siuslaw River so as we were enjoying our lunch we were able to watch the fishing boats pass, people crabbing off the dock and the sea lions play.  Not only was the food delicious but the atmosphere was great as well.

Walking along the waterfront in Old Town Florence we passed unique little shops, restaurants and the harbor where the fishing boats were coming in for the day.  It was really neat to see the different fishing gear on the boats that they use in the bays and ocean.  One thing that I did notice was they were all wearing warm clothing while Terry and Joe were in their summer attire.  I am sure it is very chilly out on the water with the wind blowing.

Traveling further south on Hwy 101 we turned onto Hwy 38 and in 3 1/2 miles we are at the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Center. It is on the edge of the town of Reedsport.  We watched the herd for awhile and then made our way back to a wood carving shop.  It was pretty obvious as to who they are supporting for President with a carving of Trump's name and a statue of him out front.  If he wins the race, which I hope he does, it would be interesting to see the selling price on these pieces.  There were some really nice pieces of art at this shop.

One of the things I would love about living in Oregon is I would not have to pump my own gas.  Nope, you can't pump your own gas unless you live in a rural area where the population is 40,000 are less and it is between the hours of 6PM and 6AM.  This legislation was passed last year to make sure fuel was available in these rural areas at night where 24 hour attendants were not feasible for the stations.  I am sure there are many that don't want to wait for an attendant and would rather do their own but I like the personal service.  Well we are tanked up with fuel and ready to make our way further down the coast when we leave South Beach State Park on Friday morning.

Please join us and support Donald Trump for President and "Make America Great Again".

Oregon Coast near Heceta Head Lighthouse

Heceta Head Lighthouse sends out the strongest beam of light on the Coast.

Sneaker wave warnings were all around the beaches.

The waves were so powerful.

Cricket and I take a break and smile for the camera.

Creating a personal post card for our Aayden.

Sending a hello to our grandsons from the beach on the Oregon Coast.  It had been a long time since I had written in the sand.

There were several caves in the cliffs on the beach.

If you have ever seen a picture of the Heceta Head Lighthouse on a calendar, it was more than likely taken from this viewpoint.

Joe and Cricket still cruising the Coast with the Cajuns.

The original location of Mo's Restaurant is in Newport.  A garage door was installed in the front of the building after a woman accidentally drove her car through the building.  Mo, the owner was comforting the woman after she had driven her car through the restaurant and said to her "oh well we will just put a garage door there".  And she did.

This woman was trying to crab but this fellow was eating all her bait and looking at her as if to say " How dare you to take your traps out of the water".

Old Town Florence, Oregon.  This corner was full of color with the flowers and wind socks.

Perfect growing conditions for these flower beds.

These little guys were seen through out the town.

We were a couple thousand miles away from home.

Here's another one.

Wow!  Very impressed with their thoughtfulness for Louisiana flood victims.

Dungeness Crab - They drop their traps go fish for a few hours and check them on their way back in.  Bingo supper!

Terry and this guy were discussing the differences between the blue crab back home and the Dungeness crab.  One thing they have in common is that they both are delicious.

Always taking reflection shots.  I think they are so cool.

The artwork on these guys was really good.

The herd has about 100 Roosevelt Elk in it.

Their racks were so big.

Make America Great Again!

Of course this piece was not for sale.  Sure could see it on our back porch.

Look at the size of these hanging baskets that lined the street of Reedsport.

Two more votes for Trump!
