Enjoying Montana with our friends Cheryl and Gerry LeBlanc

We traveled 350 miles on Wednesday, July 20th from Yellowstone Valley Inn campground to Fairmont RV Park in Fairmont, Montana.  That is more than what we like to travel in a day but trying to find campgrounds with availability has been a real challenge.  We took Hwy 14 out of Cody and made our way to I-90 West in Laurel, MT.  On I-90 east of Butte, MT.  is the Homestake Pass with an elevation of 6375 feet.  It has two summits about 2 miles apart and between them is a valley.  The westbound descent into Butte is about 3 miles of steady 6% grade.  The views through these mountain passes are always so pretty.

Our stop in Fairmont was only for the night.  The park was very nice and seemed to be a one night stop for many other campers.  We were walking around in the park and met some young boys with LSU shirts on that were from Folsom, LA.  It is always nice to meet other campers from Louisiana.

Back on the road again Thursday morning we had to drive 205 miles to Rollins RV Park in Rollins, MT.  We had a reservation for 3 nights, but little did we know at the time the reservation was made we would end up staying for 7 weeks and experience our first work camping job.  We absolutely loved the area and the weather was perfect.

The first highlight of our stay in Rollins was having our dear friends Cheryl and Gerry LeBlanc from Lake Charles fly up and meet us.  We only had a short amount of time together so we packed a lot of fun and laughter into each day.

Our first excursion was to Whitefish, MT. to the Big Mountain.  The views from the mountain top of Whitefish and Glacier National Park were panoramic.  I know I have mentioned this in so many of my post but pictures do not show all the beauty that we have seen.   America is truly the Beautiful.

There were many trails for hiking and for riding bikes.

Gerry and Terry listening to her instructions.  Now if they will follow them.  Should not be a problem for them because she was telling them to go full throttle to get off the hill.  I ask her if she had a remote for people like me that would not go fast down the hill.  No Cheryl and I didn't ride it but the guys said it was a blast.

There goes Gerry.

And Terry trying to catch up with Gerry.

On the ski lift going to the top.  Gerry's first time to ride a lift since he is afraid of heights.

He really is afraid of heights.

Whitefish Lake

Cheryl thought she saw a friend from Lake Charles going up as we were going down.  Gerry stayed focused on the cables and the construction of the lift.

The water was so clear.

These rocks are under the water.  Isn't water such a mystery.  It is constantly changing right before our eyes.

Whitefish Lake where many families vacation.

The white pipe in this picture is used to pipe the water out of the lake for personal consumption

Big Mountain Ski Slopes

Walking into the water on the river rocks hurt.  I thought Cheryl and I were going to get stuck out there because we didn't want to walk back on the rocks.  Definitely needed water shoes.

We watched several people fly boarding while we were here at the lake.  It is becoming the number one tourist attraction on the lake.

Taking it easy and watching the fly boarding.

Our one night stop on the way to Rollins, MT.

Pictures are worth a 1000 words and also help us to remember the parks.

Our campsite at Rollins RV  Park.  These sites are very spacious.

View of the lake from the campground.

The sweet cream pancakes with homemade caramel syrup was so delicious.  They are known to have the best huckleberry shakes around the lake.

The bicycle fence was so unique and such a nice attraction.

Ernie, our neighbor and Terry working on his new Traeger grill.  Moose burgers were on the menu.
